mahashivratri - phalahari alloo aur chai

Daily the same end
But these festivals
Bring a pause to
Our monotonous life
And with today being mahashivratri
Had to write about it in my diary ...

So todays special was my favourite vrat wale alloo paired with ginger chai and curd
This post is about curd though here we get all kind of yogurt
I prefer to do it at home somehow then only I feel satiated
Ingredient
Milk one litre
Starter curd one tbsp.
Procedure
Boil milk nicely till its thick and creamy
Once done remove from flame and let it cool
Add one tbsp. Of starter and mix nicely
warm microwave for two minute
Keep the vessel in it to set for overnight
By morning homemade yogurt is ready ...
have posted poetry on mahashivratri in my other blog

healthy food for fasting - Chaitra Navratri

Navratri is over ,I like festivals as they add glitz to our normal monotonous days, we prepare good food ,dress up ,deck up our home and in other words add colours to our black and white life. If you have been following my blog you must be knowing what I prepared for the fasting on first day, for the Ashthami fast didn't feel like cooking the whole meal
For breakfast had fried faux nut and chai /tea

so instead just had fried potato topped with beaten curd and green tea for dinner .

For Lunch
I had got coconut flavoured yogurt which is readily available in the supermarkets here ,just whisked it with the help of spoon and topped it with dried cranberries and blueberries.

Last post I had written a small poem on Ramnavami Festival
I know my writing is pretty bad so sharing it again here

You are out of reach
And Transcendence
And during festivals
Its sheer joy for us .
As we get to celebrate
The divinity around us.
So thanks for such
Beautiful days
When we are
Engulfed in
Sweet madness
To fast, feast
And celebrate
As it adds
 new meaning
To a normal day.

sandesh for basant panchami

Whenever I am sad or depressed I just go in the kitchen and start cooking or you can say  thats  the best way for me take out my grief, last weekend my maternal grandmother was hospitalised for grade three burn injury since then I am shaken to the core I can just pray from here that she be fine soon.
Yesterday being Basant Panchami I thought of preparing something simple for Bhog ,had been preparing sweet saffron rice since past few years but yesterday instead of that just prepared this simple sweet delicacy called Sandesh from BongMom Cookbook spaces

.I had to tell Advay about the festival ,for which goddess the sweet is being prepared and ya I did forgot my grief for some time when he was there helping me in the kitchen and asking me" mummy how will we prepare mithai ?"

Traditions have to be followed and life has to go on with a silent prayer in my heart I conclude this post .
this pic of Saraswati Pooja was sent to me by my cousin

thats all friends, wish you all blessed week ahead

Ganesh Chaturthi 2012 Celebration

When I was in India I didnt had any idea about Ganesha Festival
then when I was in  college in Bangalore I saw the Celebrations in year 2000
every year Ganesha Idol would be bought and kept for 10 days in the hostel premises
and on 11th day Idol would be taken for immersion with much fanfare
Year 2008 I learnt how Modak is prepared at Lakshmi's place
Year 2011 prepared for the festival Modak and Pal Kozhukattai

Year 2012

pics taken at my neighbor's place

she prepared Modaks for the offering

and kept Ganesha favorite fruit for Naivedyam
