PHIR AAYA SAWAN KA MAHINA TYOHARO KE SAATH OR HARA BHARA KUDRUM SHRAVAN MAS HOLIEST MONTH FOR HINDUS

Holy month of SHRAVAN MAS has started from 19Th JULY which is the most auspicious month for Hindus.The star called SHRAVAN rules the sky the entire month hence the month is called SHRAVAN.
Also known as SAWAN is the fifth month of Hindu calendar and considered holiest month of the year,each Monday of this month is known as SAWAN KA SOMVAR and is considered special in SHIVA temple where the dharanatra hangs over the linga to bathe it with water day and night.Devotees pile the linga high with bel leaves and fast whole day.

MONDAY-IN WORSHIP OF LORD SHIVA
TUESDAY -IN WORSHIP OF GAURI ( LORD SHIVA'S WIFE )
WEDNESDAY-IN WORSHIP OF VITHALA(KRISHNA OR VISHNU WORSHIP)
THURSDAY-IN WORSHIP OF LORD BUDDHA AND GURU WORSHIP
FRIDAY-IN WORSHIP OF GODDESS LAKSHMI AND TULSI
SATURDAY- IN WORSHIP OF SHANI(SATURN)
SUNDAY-SUN GODS WORSHIP

IN RAJASTHAN TEEJ FESTIVAL FALLS DURING SHRAVAN MONTH,WHICH IS CELEBRATED WITH MUCH POMP ,.THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TEEJ IS TO HONOUR THE UNION OF LORD SHIVA AND GODDESS PARVATI.

IN HARYANA TEEJ IS CELEBRATED ON SAAWAN SUDI,AFTER THE FIRST SHOWER OF SAWAAN,A SMALL RED INSECT CALLED TEEJ COMES OUT OF THE SOIL.GIRLS APPLY HEENA ON THEIR HANDS AND FEET,SWINGS ARE SET UP IN THE OPEN COURTYARD.

CHUDI POOJA IS ALSO DONE BY MARRIED FEMALES EVERY FRIDAY AND SUNDAY OF THE HOLY MONTH BY WORSHIPING THE HOLY PLANT TULSI,BY OFFERING CHUDIS,TINY BOUQUETS OF FLOWERS,VERMILION AND OTHER PUJA ITEMS.

Since past few yrs even i have started keeping fast on every Monday of shravan mas,..my first fast gonna be tomorrow,,so this month u gonna cee more of vrat recipes,..we abstain from nonveg food also this holy month,,,,so just veggie posts gonna come this month
the other festival dishes which i have already blogged are

coming to todays post,today i will be blogging recipe for kudrum fry also known as tindora,tendli and ivy gourd
..very simple recipe,,.ingredients needed are chopped kudrum one cup,crushed red chilli two,asafoetida a pinch,fenugrek seeds half tsp,salt to taste,oil to cook,turmeric half tsp
procedure-heat one tsp oil in wok,add fenugreek seeds,asafoetida and red chili,once they start spluttering add chopped kudrum ,keep stirring,..add salt and turmeric,..enjoy hot with roti
this goes to maninas who is hosting cooking with the season,..

Awesome information about the importance of the Shravan month, and the important occasions to be observed. Could you please add the dates for each of those occasions, like when Vara Lakshmi Vratham is, when Nagapanchami is etc? Liked the Ivy gourd stir fry recipe:-)
