harried weekend cooking story :-)

Most of the time saturday and sunday is harried cooking day for me ,as it all becomes too chaotic with so many things to do

and I am left with hardly any time to cook thats what happened last weekend after serving hubby bread roll which didn't turn out the way they are supposed to , I had to pan fry the rolls they looked like edible bread patties ya sometimes I have bad cooking day and most of the time its weekend :-(
two weeks before I had prepared poha which neither looked like poha nor tasted the same and at  time like this I start to doubt my cooking have I really lost it.but after these two episodes I know two things that weekend cooking specially  breakfast is jinxed for me,:-(
Coming back to todays post sharing with you all simple pan fried pomfret

which I cooked in 10 mins that too with my son screaming that he wants to help me so just some ingredients tossed together and you have something yummy to eat and ya this one did made up my jinxed bad breadroll day.
recipe name pan fried pomfret
recipe source kitchen experiment
Ingredient
pomfret one sliced from between
ginger garlic grated one tbsp
green chutney/dhania chutney ( lifesaver :-) three tbsp
lemon juice two tbsp
gramflour two tbsp
salt as per taste
half tsp red chili powder
half tsp turmeric powder
half tsp coriander powder
half tsp amchur

preparation
In a mixing bowl mix all the ingredients listed above and rub the mixture on the pomfret .
heat one tbsp oil in non stick pan
procedure
pan fry the fish till its brown and crispy from both sides
serve warm with some lemon wedges and onions on the side.

and ya after two weeks of weekend breakfast  debacle i have this thought on my mind should I just serve this simple breakfast of toasted bread smeared with butter ,boiled egg and a glass of orange juice  to hubby
or go for brunch like this of Aloo paratha with dhania chutney

or just  keep calm and serve on :-)

Food Fiction - Of Spinach leaves and Sapeta

She was clocked up with thoughts about dinner, even though it was just 5pm but still she had to rush with things as she knew once her son would be back from playground she wouldnt get any time, cooking was something which she enjoyed the most when she was alone because she could be herself ,she pondered a lot and then decided to prepare Sapeta, plain rice and onion raita  for dinner .

(photo taken from here )
In a basket she kept all the ingredient she needed tomato, onion, green chili, garlic and spinach leaves, she tuned to her favourite radio station and started with the preparation .Her one of the favourite song Babul Mora Naihar Chuto Jaye was playing on the radio ,as she started chopping spinach leaves her thoughts went back to her childhood days.
It had been some four years since she last visited them ,because of her son's school . she just didnt get time to visit her parents .It was just either phone call or skype which kept them connected, but now since her son's exams were over she thought of planning a visit soon.Once spinach leaves were chopped, she washed and drained the leaves and started with the  preparation of  dal but mentally she was still at her parents place.Anjali was so busy frying onion that she didnt realise that the  door bell was ringing ,surprised that who would  be at this time she wiped her hand in the kitchen towel and rushed to open the door.
Vivek - "what took you so long ?"
Anjali - "Oh i was so busy cooking that i didnt realise, how come you are early today ?"
Vivek - "I thought of surprising you -) "
Anjali - " thanks i just had tea what would u like ?"
Vivek  - "nothing i am going on office tour for few days, and as Akshat is going for his summer camp the same time i thought you can join me for the tour."
Anjali thinks ( i cant go to my parents place again  this summer ),"oh ya sure i gonna join you."
Vivek-  " I knew you would be ready , have booked the ticket and spoke to Akshat too."
Anjai wiping tears from her eyes adds tomato and powdered masala to the fried onions, her younger sis was coming after two years from States ,she knew that she cant tell this to her hubby ,keeping her emotions to her self she adds chopped and drained spinach to fried onion and tomato mixture.
Vivek - "what are you preparing it smells so good ?"
Anjali - " i am preparing Sapeta this reminds me of my Dadi ,you know when i was kid i never used to like this, but now not only i prepare i like it too."
Vivek -" hmm you missing your Dadi ?"
Anjali - " no its just that some recipes makes us nostalgic."
Once Sapeta was prepared and the table was set Anjali saw a envelope addressed to her on the kitchen table.
Anjali - "Vivek when did this come , evening there was no mail."
Vivek -" its addressed to you so i didnt open"
Anjali opens the envelope slowly and finds a card and ticket to India for her hometown tears filled her eyes and she knew who would do this,Vivek was looking at her expression with a grin on his face,
Anjali -" so this is it ,thanks a ton ."
Vivek  -" Thanks now when did this word come between our relationship, you deserve a break its been so long since u visited your parents ,so i planned it i know ur younger sister is coming from States."
Anjali - " I thought of telling you today but when you told me about the trip I dropped the idea anyways thanks for making my day ,.:-)"

talk with friends and family but not while cooking,.;-)

Have you guys ever tried cooking while talking on phone
if not tried in the midst of cooking ever answered a call
or in other words cooked and talked at the same time
i did yesterday and this is what happened
Mishap
forgot to add lentil to the Khichdi and the result u guys can imagine
had to reopen the pressure cooker to add the lentils and by then rice was done
so the rice was overdone just because i had to cook the lentils.
but then i had to add lentils because i was preparing khichdi
( hope hubby is not reading this , i was too embarrased to tell him )
so yesterdays lesson - never to talk on phone while cooking and if the call is important just turn off the flame and speak ,or i wont know what i am cooking and what i have added or not added while talking .

Way back in March 2008 I prepared this simple one pot meal of chicken and rice
March 2009 hooked me to  Andhra cuisine and i learnt to prepare
Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani and Hyderabadi Mutton Biryani

Winters of November 2009 made me prepare this
Egg Biryani with Goan Curry Powder and

he didnt move though his eyes were watering because of the onions,he even held my hand while i was struggling to chop the chicken pieces( i never gonna forget this) Thanks Advay for understanding the efforts which i put in preparing everyday meal,..the way you said thankyou i will always remember.

This one is about life lessons and Curried Ground Chicken

I guess everyday we learn something from life ,this is what i learnt since past three days
I learnt day before yesterday thats parents are always correct, after all they are parents,
I learnt yesterday that sometimes advice should be given a thought no matter from where its coming from
and specially when the same advice is given by three different people
and today i learnt how to brew cardamom and ginger flavour  tea with tea bag ,this came out of neccessity as i am out of tea powder  and have a box full of tea bags, plain tea is something which i can never have
so this is wht i did
How to brew cardamom and ginger flavour tea with Tea Bag
boil water in sauce pan
add sugar, crushed half tsp ginger, crushed cardamom pod
let it simmer for 5 mins
strain in a cup and add tea bag
followed by one fourth cup of warm milk
enjoy hot .
But this post is just not about brewing tea and life lessons ,,,its about something else,.
