since past few days i had been preparing chicken curry in various ways ,..somehow had forgotten the traditional way we used to prepare before...so today before going to gym,..i asked my hubby to prepare chicken curry..,..it had been long time,..since he had cooked chicken curry in his own traditional way,..he readily agreed,,.when i got married..i didn't know how to cook chicken ,..hubby thought me the way he used to cook,..after that i started experimenting ,..with different kind of recipes,..
today when i reached home i was really hungry,..chicken curry looked good,..couldn't resist myself,..rice had to be cooked,,,.prepared plain rice...tasted great with rice,.this curry reminds me of the thick chicken curry we get in dhaba..
recipe is very simple
heat oil
add cumin seeds
add chopped onion,ginger,garlic and green chilli
once onion starts changing colour add tomato puree,,followed by salt nd chicken masala
once you see oil along the sides add chicken,.keep frying till brown from both sides
now add water and cover nd cook for few minutes
enjoy with rice or chapati..
and now sommething sweet for the swc gujarat event
yesterday prepared jalebi for the first time,..recipe goes here...jalebi is my favourite sweet..back here i used to crave a lot,.but now after tryin out the recipe..can prepare anytime,..\\
prepare strawberry shrikhand,,after dinner yeterday..had already seived the curd and kept in fridge so it didnt take much time..mixed finely chopped starwberry...and kept in fridge for some time before serving

kerala porata,urulakizhangu kari and kesariya sandesh and yes another strip..
yesterday prepared for the first time,..kerala porotta for the first time,,,have never added egg in porotta dough,,so was really excited,,how it will taste...and how it will look ya another experiment but it came out real well,,and with the spicy potato curry( urulakizhangu) ya that too malayali style...both tasted great,..
recipe for porotta
ingredients
all purpose flour 4 cups
half tsp salt
baking powder apinch
sugar one tsp
egg beaten one
oil to cook
procedure
mix all the ingredients to make dough,use water to mix
cover with damp cloth and keep for 3-4 hours
shape each dough into orange size balls,coat with oil and keep for an hour
oil a board,beat each dough ball,..stretching and folding it for 10 minutes,keep applying oil at every stage,
finally roll out roti shape,..after repeated folding,.
place on hot tava,cook till brown from both sides
enjoy with curry of your choice
sending ths porotta for roti mela
urulakizhangu kari
prepared for the first time,,tasted great with the porotta,..
ingredients
two potatoes
one tsp mustard seeds
chopped coconut
salt to taste
ginger chopped
curry leaves
onion chopped one
oil to cook
for paste
ground to fine paste
onion one
garlic clove three'
one tsp each of red chilli,coriander and turmeric
pepper seeds one tsp
cloves 6
cinnamom stick one cm crushed
fennel seeds one tsp
ground all these together,keep aside
procedure
peel and chop potatoes
heat oil,add mustard seeds, followed by onion,ginger and curry leaves
when coconut turns brown add salt spice paste and water,..bring to boil
now add onion and potaoes
fry,..for a while..
cover and cook
kesariya sandesh

This is the post which i really didnt want to publish,..but then thought..what is done ,.is done,..and other bloggers should know that this combo didnt rocked together...so that they don make the mistake which i made,...ya i am talking about the post of vagha relo bhat and baingan,..on which i did the cartoon strip too..the recipe goes here of vaghaa relo bhaat and of vangi batata bhaji here,.please dont prepare these two dishes together...u can prepare either of them but not together,,,

CHICKEN biryani
this recipe i am sending for fortune cooking event,i have chosen gemini sign,..which is zodiac sign of my hubby,.i have chosen chicken under the nonveg section,..before writing about the recipe of chicken biryani

being married since two yrs,,..i never knew anyone with gemini sign,..so it was bit difficult for me to understand my hubby,..being dual sign,..u cant predict...when there mood will change..but they are back to normal soon,..but now i after staying with himsince two yrs i can understand him,.,..he is quiet understanding,mature,.ya looses his cool at times,..but that even i do,...back in my family most of them are leos,..my friends were cancerians,pisces,and aries,..so person with gemini sign was totally something new for me,..
ingredients
chicken 300 gm
onion three chopped
green chilli chopped three
ginger garlic paste one tsp
curd one cup
soaked rice two cup
saffron soaked in milk for 10 minutes one tablespoon
salt to taste
lemon juice
chopped almond and raisins
biryani masala one tsp
oil to cook
procedure
heat oil in wok
add chopped onions and fry till brown ,now add chopped green chillies,ginger garlic paste
keep frying
now add curd,..followed by chicken,keep frying till chicken changes colour to brown,add salt
now add ,..chopped almonds,raisin and lemon juice,..and cover and cook
remove from heat and mix the biryani masala
before serving spoon rice over chicken mixture,sprinkle saffron and milk,,,
we had with onion raita it was delicious

ingredients
cinnamon stiick broken into pieces
green cardamom three
brown cardamom three
whole cloves 5
mace half teaspoon
black pepper hal teaspoon
fennel seeds half teaspoon
bay leaves two crushed
grated nutmeg
procedure
in a pan on low flame dry raost each ingredient separately
each ingredient will take 4 minutes
keep in air tight container
before using grind to powder

Cranberry Sandesh
the bengali lunch post has already four dishes,..and thats why is quiet long..so i thought to write about this one in new post,.evening after dinner,..i felt bengali food is not complete without sweetdish,..be it misti doi,rosagulla or evergreen sandesh,..before trying i asked my hubby..whether he will wait...for the sweet ..or wants to sleep,..he told he will wait...btw he liked all the bengali dishes i had prepared today..i was bit scared...cause the gujarati dish which i had prepared was not liked.but guess every day is not sunday,..it was past 11
...,..and i had to prepare chena too,..this was the first time,,,i prepared sandesh today,..so i kept the milk for boiling,and started washing off dishes,.whenever i cook ,i wash the dishes first...that way i feel relaxed...by the time i had washed dinner dishes...milk was boiling,..maybe 600ml of milk ,,,sorry guys i am not sure about the quantity,..i added lime juice to curdle the milk,..two teaspoon of lime juice was enough.
..i powdered three teaspoon of sugar in grinder,kept it aside...and made paste of cranberry,..hmm i guess handfull will be enough.
..,..by this time...milk was fully curdled,..i strained the curdled milk by keeping cloth on top of the stariner,...so finally i got the cottage cheese or chena,,with help of spoon i squeezed out excess water...
everything ready...i mashed the cottage cheese to soft consistency in a mixing bowl...added grounded sugar,..followed by paste of cranberry..mixed all three together...while mixing thought of making heart shape
,..i know my shapes are not that perfect...really enjoyed..doing this,,
,by the time i finished..hubby had put advay to sleep,.pics were clicked by my hubby...kept in freezer for 10 minutes..as he wanted to have them that way....and the taste..don ask...i was reminded of my college days,..back here in singapore,..forget about bengali shops...there are hardly any sweet shops,..
in bangalore.where i did my graduation...i used to be regular visitor of kanthi sweets,..and kc das,..felt really happy ,,,as the taste was really great,,,have saved few for tomorrow,,this was my first try for sandesh ,..so really happy...i was bit scared cause cranberry sandesh,,sounds...out of the world,..,.but after eating i forgot everything...
